What to eat

In Amsterdam you can find culinary traditions from around the world. Near the central station is located Zeedijk, an area occupied by eastern restaurants. The Turkish kebab and shwarma Arabs are everywhere. If you like oriental cuisine you can not absolutely do not stop in one of the restaurants that crowd the area around the Nieuwmarkt Zeedijk on the road (connecting to the Nieuwmarkt Centraal Station) is a small ChinaTown.

The rooms here are more or less equivalent to the price and quality, but I personally I believe that the Moy Kong, specializing in Cantonese cuisine. To try cooking Thai instead is a good place in the Chao Phraya Nieuwmarkt 10, but not disdaining even the Portuguese and Mexicans. Around Leidsplein are also many Italian restaurants, Argentinian and Greek at all.

Stores that sell huge sandwiches and all kinds of sweets are scattered throughout the center. Dutch culinary tradition can be found many traces of ties with Indonesia (former Dutch colony), in almost every city you can find an Indonesian restaurant (chinees-indische restaurant). The traditional dish is called "rijsttafel" (literally rice table) allows to sample Indonesian cuisine in a traditional manner, a set of dishes (about fifteen) of meat, fish and vegetables served with spicy sauces and spicy or Sweet-sour everything accompanied by rice, a real feast. Other specialties are "nasi goreng" (rice mixed with a wide variety of ingredients) or "bami goreng '(spaghetti with soy the same type of seasoning).

The Dutch cuisine is well represented, resulting in the menus of many restaurants in the capital, one of the most famous Haesje Claes D'or Vijff Vlieghen. A traditional Dutch food is raw herring, which in Amsterdam is served cut into small pieces with onions and gardener.

So if you are in Amsterdam, and loved the challenge, you might venture out to sample the croquettes sold by Febo (de lekkerste! Or the chain of fast-food Dutch). The food is exposed in special cells, which open when you insert one or two euros. The kroketten are eaten usually with mustard and content can chicken, beef or veal. The pancakes are kind of giant crepes served either salted (with ham and cheese, spinach, bacon, salami etc ...) and sweet (the nutella, jam, or with ice cream with the typical Stroop, a thick syrup). The best without doubt is at The Pancake Bakery on Prinsengracht 191, one block further north of the house of Anne Frank. The location is really nice and harvest, the only problem is that it closes at 21.30.

Italian Restaurant

If you are vegetarian you can not miss the falaffels or typical Israeli meatballs with vegetables, served with salad and then can be trimmed at will and above all a will. The best place to eat is a small but sunny room at the corner Muntplein and Reguliersbree Straat (the one that brings in Rembrandt Plein). With only 6 gulden binges can really add a mo 'for self-service to your falaffel all kinds of vegetables and tasty salsette (all'aglio careful with that!).

To eat well and spend little, you can also go to the Albert Cuyp Markt area. If however your budget is not limited, the area around Leidseplein offers restaurants for every taste and every budget. Finally if you want to eat a meal with economic, abundant and good quality, the ideal solution is represented by the university, the Atrium (Oudezijds Achterburgwal 237, not only open to students from Mon-Fri 17-19).
